Hello everyone,

Here are some updates on planning matters in County Kilkenny for June.

1. The Living City Initiative:
This initiative focuses on the regeneration of retail and commercial
districts and encouraging people to live in the historic centres of Cork,
Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick and Waterford. The aim of the Living
City initiative is to bring life back into the heart of the relevant cities
by offering tax relief for qualifying expenditure incurred on the
refurbishment or conversion of certain buildings where conditions are met.
For further information on the residential and commercial elements of the
initiative for Kilkenny City please see the County Council website:

2. St. Mary’s Museum Project:
For an update on this project and for further information on the recent
internationally significant archaeological discoveries at St. Mary’s
please see the County Council website:

outlining the feedback received during the SWOT analysis workshop is also
published online and has been circulated to the Elected Representatives of
the Council.

4. Proposed Variation to Kilkenny City & Environs Development Plan
2014-2020 and Masterplan for Abbey Creative Quarter (former Smithwick’s
Brewery):
At the special Meeting of Kilkenny County Council held on the 27th May
2015, it was decided to proceed with a Proposed Variation to the City
Development Plan and to place the Draft Masterplan on public display. The
public consultation periods for both processes will commence later in June
this year. A further e-mail will issue when all the relevant documentation

your submission.
